Angkor Wat Temple Complex : This is a combination of two trips to the complex we made. The first group of photos are taken at dawn as the sun rises behing the main temple (Angkor Wat.) You don't get a good sense of perspective from the picture, but I'd guess we were half a mile away from the five towers. They are very big. There are pictures taken from the tower that show the walkway to the outer wall. There is another walkway that long over a moat. I took those shots from the far side of the moat. The second trip was in the afternoon when we went to Angkor Thom and Bayon was walked around a bit afterwards.

The complex was started in 1100 or so and was built up for several hundred years until the Khmer empire fell. The biggest temple (Angkor Wat) was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, though I believe the whole complex was rededicated to Buddhism at some point.

We saw only the smallest part of the complex. You could spend a week there and still not see all the temples.

Yasukuni Shrine 1/02/2007 : After visiting the Emperor's Palace we walked up to the controversial Yasukuni War Shrine, where the souls of Japan's 2.5 million war dead are enshrined (including a few war criminals.)

The shrine was very cool, there were all kinds of food stands available and the museum had a completely rebuilt Zero on public display.

Egg Nog 12/09/2006 : Kyle came up with the idea of making eggnog. It was a good one, even though we had to beat everything by hand. It probably didn't hurt to burn a few calories, since eggnog has plenty of them.

Katsu-kari 11/30/2006 : This is a local curry restaurant that I have been to often. I usually get curry-udon (it has noodles instead of rice) but was hungry this time around so when this way instead.

He makes the curry sauce himself (hence the spice jars) and the food is always great.

Harajuku Girls/Meiji Shrine 11/26/06 : My friends Tim and Brian flew in to Tokyo for a week and our first trip out was to Harajuku to visit the Meiji Shrine and see the cosplay girls (with a few boys) outside Yoyogi Park. They dress up as their favorite characters from anime, manga and even video games. I don't think there is anything else like it anywhere in the world.

Tokyo Fashion : A lot of people (male and female) have asked me to describe Tokyo fashion for them. It's easier to describe the pictures than describe the styles.

For women it tends to be short skirts and high boots. For guys anything from rock star to hip-hip to anything else they think of.

Waseda/Keio Baseball Game 10/29/2006 : This game was a lot of fun, more for the constant cheering and yelling of the fans than the game itself.

Waseda was down 2-1 in the 9th inning and tied the game with a home run. The game went to the 12th inning when Waseda hit a two run home run to win the game!
